As the federal government activates restriction order in Abuja, leadership of the FCT Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) has beckoned on members to display high level of compliance with the ‘stay at home’ order as part of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking via an official press release in the nation’s capital, Chairman of the association Comrade Ndubueze Chidoka commended sports writers, and indeed other stakeholders for embracing early preventive measures which led to postponement of various sporting competitions in the country.
Comrade Chidoka recalled that till date, no Covid-19 positive case in Nigeria has been traceable to any sporting outing, a development he said stakeholders must work hard to sustain.
The SWAN leader in FCT further said that as part of agenda setting role of the media, sports journalists are expected to closely monitor situation at this time in a bid to enlighten athletes and other stakeholders at all times.
He also expressed optimism that the current unusual period would soon be over so that normal sporting activities would commence both in the country and the world at large.
While calling on the leadership of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to extend government’s palliative measures and safety tools to athletes at the grassroots and members of the sporting media, Comrade Chdioka enjoined sports administrators, particularly in the nation’s capital to devise means of keeping tabs with sports men and women around.
“Being alive is the most important aspect of living. Let us continiously stay safe even while carrying out our professional duties. However, all hands must be on deck to ensure that no one is left behind at this critical time,” he added.
