The Football Intermediaries Association of Nigeria (FIAN), has condemned the killing of Remo Stars FC vice captain and defender Tiamiyu Kazeem by members of SARS.
In a strongly worded statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the body, Kelvin Irikefe, it commiserated with the family of the late player, management of Remo Stars FC and the football fraternity over the death of the promising player, while also condemning it in unequivocal terms.
He described it as one killing too many of bright and rising Nigerian Football stars, whose lives have been rudely cut short in their prime by security officers.
” We join the sports community and entire country to protest trending trademark application of excessive force in line of duty, and complicity of SARS in this and other avoidable shedding of innocent blood of our footballers and youths.
” The relevant authorities are hereby re-urged to conduct a sincere and transparent investigation into this paradoxical trend and weed out all the bad eggs in SARS that are turning their guns and training against same citizens they took oat to protect and by whose tax payers’ Naira their salaries are being paid.
“With a view of finding a permanent solution to this rampant abuse of power, violation of rules of engagement and citizen’s right to life and dignity, FIAN joins other concerned Nigerians to demand for the fullest prosecution of the officers involved,” the statement demanded.
FIAN also endorsed the Abuja civil rally called by the National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers (NANPF).
