Nigerian veteran female football star, Rita Chikwelu has refuted speculation in some quarters that she is already feeling the pressure of being stand-in captain of the women’s national team, Super Falcons.
Speaking of her projections towards this month’s Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Ghana, where she has been saddled with the task of leading the Falcons in action, Chikwelu told sports247.ng that she does not intend to carry the weight all alone.
The veteran defender dispelled any talk about pressure on her, as she insists it is only a call to duty, which could have been handed to any other player in the squad as well.
Chikwelu expatiated: “The way I see it, every player in the team is a captain. Everyone can lead on the pitch and contribute their own efforts during any match.
“We all have our various roles to play, but I am only a representative of the players on the pitch. I am only a player, not a master or something like that.”
