The much-awaited first edition of Double J Football Competition would kick off on Saturday at Ladoje Primary School, Oko- Oba Agege, Lagos.
Sixteen teams across Lagos West Senatorial zone are expected to take part in the two weeks competition sponsored by the Managing Director of Double J Limited, Raymond Chinedu Nwachukwu whose company is into music recording and Artists Management, Travels and Logistics
In the fixtures released by the organizers, Double J Football Club will face God’s Power Football Club in the opening match while three matches have been lined up on Sunday at the same venue.
Addressing the participants, the sponsor, Nwachukwu expressed satisfaction with the numbers of teams showing interest in the competition, saying that all the participating teams will be given equal officiating during the tournament.
He revealed that the competition is being sponsored to promote the round leather football at Agege and its environs and ensure that talents are discovered at the end of the tourney.
“I am not sponsoring the tournament to serve my pocket but I sponsor it because I was once a player and it is time for me to give back to society. I am impressed with the publicity of the competition and the acceptance by the clubs in Lagos. I am looking forward to the opening match, coincidentally my teams are playing the opening match against God’s Power FC. I wish all the participating teams best of luck in their outings,” he said.
Nwachukwu promised that the competition will live up to expectation in terms of good officiating and standard of play by the participating teams.
Among the teams that have confirmed their readiness are Kentade FC, Orient FC, Awori All-Stars, Peace FC, Gods Power FC, Global FC, Marvellous FC, Toma FC and Abule Egba FC
