It is going to be an interesting weekend in the match day 18 of the 2019/2020 NPFL season as three clubs battle for the top of the table.
With two points separating first from third, this weekend fixtures will be tough encounters.
Second placed Plateau United will battle third placed Rivers United for a spot at the top of the table.
Tied on points with just goal difference separating both clubs, the tie looks like a mouth watery one. Held to draws last time out against MFM FC and Wikki Tourists respectively, both clubs will be hungry for three points this weekend.
Abdu Maikaba’s men who currently are the highest goal scoring side of the league play on home soil where they have thrashed teams with huge numbers of goals with defending champions, Enyimba FC conceding four goals without a reply. The team had been at the summit of the league for a large part of the season but fell off with some bad away results.
Rivers united having had good results in recent weeks have risen to third position and will be hoping to complement the performance with a result in Jos over the weekend. Though the team have shipped in 11 goals having only scored 18 goals, keeping a clean sheet against Plateau United look unlikely.
League leaders, Lobi Stars will be on the road to tackle Jigawa Golden Stars on Saturday. Gbenga Ogunbote’s side will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the log with a victory and currently possessing the league’s best defense with just 8 goals conceded all season, the Benue club side might be adding another three points to the bag.
Enyimba FC and Enugu Rangers will be playing their last group stage fixtures in the CAF confederations cup this weekend and will be missing out of league action once again.
