The fun part about football is that, there is just no room for blabbering. The result speaks for itself! And speaking of results, have you been following Akwa United’s games lately? From December of 2019 precisely? If you have, then you’d agree with me that there are some clear elements of positivity and improvement in the way the team are now playing. So, after doing my own personal digging, I found out that this team’s sudden improvement and winnings, weren’t any coincidence. In fact, that the changes came about with the signing of Kennedy Boboye as their new coach.
So, who is Boboye, and what exactly did he do to change the losing streak Akwa suffered prior to his coming, into a golden run of back to back winnings? This and many more we shall be looking at in this article.
Who is Kennedy Boboye?
On 15 December, 2019, Akwa United made an official announcement of the immediate resignation of Coach Sam Obuh, as the head coach of Akwa United. And then confirmed the appointment of former Remo Stars Boss Kennedy Boboye as the club’s newly unveiled manager, with Atune Jolomi as his assistant, through Paul Ojo, who introduced the club to Boboye, given his years of experience.
Kennedy Boboye’s Accolades
Boboye is an experienced coach who has had his coaching jobs prominent Nigerian football clubs such as Sunshine Stars, Abia Warriors, likes of Plateau United and then Akwa United. In 2017, while coaching Plateau United, he led them to the league diadem.
Boboye’s Transformation in Akwa United
With just a few weeks into the managerial position in Akwa United, the results have been good, unlike the last record before his take over. With just five games played, Boboye has given Akwa United their first away win and the most recent victory over Wikki Tourists FC at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (Nest of Champions). Plus, players in the team have also spotted the level of change Boboye has brought to the team, and one of them Ifeanyi Ifeanyi had this to say about the newly signed coach.
“Coach Kennedy Boboye coming into the team has brought a lot of confidence to the boys in terms of playing because he wants us to play at all cost no matter the situation and we give God the glory that since he came, we’ve gotten the results,” Ifeanyi told newsmen after the win over Dakkada.”
Undoubtedly, even though it’s been only some weeks since Boboye took over as the coach of Akwa United, it’s still a bit early to tell if the season will be a good one but after a very poor start prior to his take over, it’s okay to say there’s hope. So far Boboye has only recorded 2 losses (1 home match and 1 away match) but the team however remains confident in his ability. Akwa United will be taking on Heartland F.C. at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium this Sunday by 4pm.
