Durum United FC have emerged champions of the maiden Edition of Kaduna State Director of Sports Peace & Unity Cup after defeating Anguwar Mallam Tanko FC 1-0.
The only goal of the entertaining encounter was scored in the 85th minute by Ahmed Mohammed through a simple tap in after connecting with Shehu Lawal’s cross.
The sixteen club tournament which climaxed this Saturday after eleven weeks of hostilities from where it all started at the Makarfi Township Stadium, Kaduna State was drawn from various wards across the Local Government Area.
Cup donor and Director of Sports of the Ministry of Sports Development, Kaduna State, Alhaji Yakubu Ibrahim expressed delight for a hitch free tournament, thanked the media, sports ministry and all those who made the event memorable.
“I would like to thank the Perm Sec., the Commissioner and staff of the Ministry for their support.
” A very big thanks also to the media for their coverage and sacrifice in the last few weeks. The Makarfi security agencies, coaches, players, Kaduna State FA and members of the public.
“I also want to thank the Village Head and District Head who defied the harsh weather to be present at the final.
” I intend to make it an annual event. I have asked that a committee be set up to identity talents and such players would be taken to the state FA to further nurture and polish their talents. The FA Chairman is in the know-how and has requested for the names when they’re available.
Head coach of Durum United FC, Danjumai Lawal (Wakilin Durum) congratulated his charges for winning the maiden edition of the tournament, commended the organizing committee and thanked cup donor for giving back to the society.
Aminu M. Sada of Makarfi Pillars won the highest goal scorer award with five goals, while Mubarak Dalhatu of Makarfi PSG was voted as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
All the sixteen clubs were presented with certificate of participation. The first placed club were presented a trophy, medals and a set of jersey, while the second placed were presented a trophy, medals and quality match balls.
