Former Sunshine Stars of Akure coach, Duke Udi is in a stiff battle with ex-FC Ifeanyi ubah and Abia Warriors of Umuahia gaffer, Rafael Everton for the top job at Akwa United of Uyo.
Although Everton has also been tipped to take over at Kano Pillars, sports247.mg learnt that the Brazilian soccer tactician is also under the radar in Uyo.
However, it will not be a smooth march to The Promise Keepers’ saddle for Everton, as Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan ex-player, Udi is also said to be eyeing the job left by Abdul Maikaba two weeks ago.
Consequently, Everton, who won with Ifeanyiubah the 2016 Federation Cup and Udi, currently with Osun United of Osogbo, are now under assessment by the management of Akwa United.
The Uyo club’s chairman, Paul Bassey said they have their specifications and do not want to appoint a coach with national team responsibilities, as was the case with Maikaba, who is an assistant in the Flying Eagles’ crew headed by Paul Aigbogun.
Everton has been without a job since he was demoted just few months after joining Abia Warriors.
On the other hand, Udi, who has also handled Giwa FC of Jos, is touting total football coaching technique for the nod to take over from Maikaba.
Sources, though, confided in sports247.ng that Bassey, a former sports editor and publisher, prefers a foreigner to be in charge of the team.
