Following pleas from various media establishments, the 2019 Olajide Fashekun 5-aside football competition has been rescheduled.
The tournament will now take place between December 19 and 20, 2019.
The earlier dates were adjusted after the management of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Voice of Nigeria (VON), and other government-owned media outfits requested for postponement on the basis that their football teams are currently in Lafia, venue of ongoing FEPSGA tournament.
Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) FCT chapter, Comrade Ndubueze Chidoka, who made this known on Tuesday said in the spirit of sportsmanship, the adjustment became necessary to accommodate the various media houses.
Comrade Chidoka said already the football team of TVC have also aligned to the possible shift in date.
“SWAN believes in an all inclusive leadership. That is why we considered plea from all quarters. Already, a good number of teams from different organisations have queued in.
“To us, everybody counts. Moreover, we are using the SWAN week programme as a unifying factor. Our late colleague, Olajide Fashekun stood for peace and unity of purpose.
Recall that NTA is defending champions of the competition.
