Warri Wolves recorded their first win of the 2019/2020 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, on Sunday, November 17 in their Matchday 3 fixture against Adamawa United.
The Seasider beat the Yola-based club 2 – 0 in the encounter before a sizeable crowd at the Warri City Stadium.
Ageless Efe Yarhere opened scoring for the home team in the 70th minute with a simple tap in, before midfielder Williams Sunday fired in the second goal with a fierce shot from the edge of the box ten minutes later.
In the opening quarter of the game, Warri Wolves enjoyed more of ball possession but found it hard to thread through the desired passes in the final third.
However, fortunes of the home team improved midway in the first half, as they created scoring chances to go ahead in the tie.
But Adamawa United goalie, Pwadadi Bulus, stood firm between the sticks and thwarted several scoring efforts.
The halftime pep talks put Warri Wolves on the front foot, as they frantically went in search of goals.
At the end of the match, an elated Evans Ogenyi, technical adviser of Warri Wolves, said he was happy with the outcome of the encounter.
Though he acknowledged that the team missed some scoring opportunities in the opening half, Ogenyi commended his side for their improved performance in the second stanza of the fixture.
“I’m happy with the result,” said Ogenyi.” This is the kind of result we had wanted before now.”
“We missed some of our opportunities to score in the first half. But we came into the game later and we got the result we want. I praise the boys for playing according to what we noted at halftime.”
“We’re a team in progress. We will continue to work hard relentlessly.”
Warri Wolves’ next home game in the league will be against Rivers United on Sunday, November 24 by 4pm.
Before that tie, Seasiders will take on MFM at the Agege Township Stadium in a Matchday 4 fixture on Wednesday, November 20.
Kickoff time is 4pm.
