Nigerian boxers need foreign exposure to perform -Joe Mensah

Veteran boxing coach, Joe Mensah has declared that Nigeria cannot produce a boxer at the height of world dominance within the country without such boxer leaving the country to better his lot abroad.

This is due to lack of facilities, equipment, inadequate sponsorship and exposure.

“Nigerian boxers have what it takes to compete with their contemporaries all over the world due to their immense talents and zeal to perform,” Joe Mensah explained in a chat with Sports247.ng.

“I have seen enough of our Pugilists to be sure of their abilities to slug it out at the world stage.”

“Any boxer willing to be at the zenith of the sport must take his or her talent abroad. That’s where the facilities are. A good boxer must make use of best equipment and and also be properly motivated to achieve his objectives,” he confessed.

Mensah added Nigeria is truly blessed with raw materials in boxing but that lack of developmental aids will never allow any home based pro boxer reach the highest heights of the game.
