Ekete United kept their hopes of qualifying to the knockout stage of the 2019 Bet9ja Royal Cup alive with an emphatic 3 – 1 win over Golden Albion on Monday, October 21, 2019 at the Warri City Stadium.
The tie, which had been an outstanding Group G fixture following the non availability of the venue earlier on, saw Ekete dispatching Albion with aplomb through goals from Solomon Agbeghoroma, Christopher Igegbu, and Erhuwu Elvis.
The result takes Ekete United to four points on the group standing and keeps them within touching distance with Delta Eagles of Ozoro.
Speaking after the tie, a top official of Ekete United, Kingsley Awaritoma, said that their final group game against Delta Eagles on Wednesday is a must win for them.
“Our last game is a must win,” he says.
“We work to get the result on the pitch against Delta Eagles. They’re a good side.”
“We’re sure of making it through to the next round,” he stated.
An outright win or draw of any complexion would be good enough to take Ekete United through to the Round of 16 and hope All Stars International Academy falter or draw against Golden Albion on Matchday 3.
Meanwhile, MWF De Titans have crashed out of the 2019 Royal Cup after the University boys lost 5 – 1 to Young Shall Grow FC.
This result, another outstanding Matchday 2 tie, takes Group H down to the wire on Matchday 3, as God’s Project FC and Mega Stars are both on four points, with Young Shall Grow FC and MWF De Titans all on three and zero points respectively.
On MD 3, Young Shall Grow FC will play God’s Project FC and Mega Stars will hope to pounce on MWF De Titans for all available points at stake.
