Former Director General of the National Sports Commission, Alhassan Yakmut has stated that without a properly structured program for athletes that just returned from the just concluded Olympic Youths games in Buenos Aires Argentina, nothing will come out of the flashes of brilliance shown by a couple of promising talents.
Yakmut says those who showed great promise should be really absolved, camped routinely so as to be able to monitor their progress and condition them accordingly.
“Development is a gradual process that is very paramount for young athletes. For these youngsters theirs isn’t an exception. They need to be redeveloped for future assignments,” Alhassan Yakmut said in a chat with Sports247.ng.
“Some of the athletes that represented Nigeria at the Olympic Youth Games proved themselves.”
“They need to be given hope of a better future. Without a well planned programme, their potentials won’t be well harnessed,” he warned.
He added: “Those that preformed very well should be properly monitored for future assignments. We shouldn’t engage in fire brigade approach. This won’t help the athletes and defeat the aim of development.”
