Schools in Delta State are in the final lapse of the battle to qualify as their zonal representatives in the state’s Principals’ Cup football competition sponsored by Zenith Bank, which is gradually winding up at the Local Government level.
On September 30 at St. Patrick’s College, Asaba, the developmental competition for all secondary schools in the state officially started with about 850 private and public schools involved in the battles.
Head of the organizing team for the competition, Tony Pemu, disclosed yesterday that the winners of all the LGS would be known at the end of the week. Only one team will represent each of the LGs.
Pemu, who is the CEO of Hideaplus Limited, stated that the tournament has been very interesting so far with teams competing keenly to earn a berth to the zonal stage of the event.
In some of the decisive games at the closing stages of the LG level, Peniel Academy Boji Boji Owa defeated Orient Academy Boji Boji Owa 3-0 in Ika North East LG.
Ughelli North final of finals is taking place on Wednesday this week by 11. 00 a.m. The venue will be Ogor Technical College
In a first leg semifinal of the Ughelli North LG, Agbarho Government Secondary School defeated Adagwe Government School 2-0, while Omavovwe Secondary School whipped Orogun Government School 7-1.
From Warri South, College of Communication defeated Dore Numa College 4-2 in a semifinals match after penalty shoot-out, while Ugbuwangue Basic Secondary School pipped Yonwuren College 1-0 to move into the final of the LG.
Delta’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Patrick Ukah only at the weekend urged the participants of the competition to embrace discipline.
The zonal stage of the ongoing tournament takes place between October 16 and 21, while the quarterfinals will be staged at venues to be announced later on October 30.
