Adeniyi Targets Gold At World Wrestling Championship

Fast-rising Nigerian female wrestler, Aminat Adeniyi has declared that she wants to win a gold medal at this year’s World Women Wrestling Championship in Budapest, Hungary.

The product of Redeemed Christian Church of God sports programme told sports247.ng that she aims to go one step further than the gold medal she won earlier this year at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Adeniyi added that the five week camping exercise of the team in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State went a long way in building exposure for her and the other three Nigerian representatives.

The Ondo State-born wrestler, who is the current national champion, All Africa Games winner, four time African champion, two time Commonwealth Games champion and Olympian, hopes to equal the record of Ifeoma Ihenacho and Odunayo Adekuoroye at the world championships.

Adeniyi, who always gives credit to RCCG general-overseer, Pastor E. A. Adeboye for backing her and inspiring her to success with prayers, said she will aim to add the world title to the African gold that is also in her kitty.

Adeniyi added: “This year has been amazing for me. I won the Africa championship here in Nigeria and I proceeded to win my second Commonwealth Games gold medal in Gold Coast, Australia. I hope to do well at the World Championship.

“This is the second World Championship I will be attending in my career and my aim is to win gold by God’s grace.

“No mountain is insurmountable. No doubt, the competition will be greater at the World Championships than the African Games.

“If I give my best, I am sure I will get a medal. So far, my performance has been very good. I am sure that I will get a medal in the World Championships.”
