Elche of Spain goalkeeper, Francis Odinaka Uzoho made the best of his league debut with the second-tier club, as he kept a clean sheet in his side’s win against Malaga, sports247.ng reports.
The opponents were better favoured for victory on the evening, but Uzoho, fresh from national team duty with Nigeria in the Africa Cup of nations qualifiers, not only helped his side eke out victory, he also stopped the opponents from scoring a single goal.
Uzoho made the best of his long-awaited Elche debut, as the lad on loan from relegated Deportivo La Coruna helped his side to a 2-0 win over Malaga in the Segunda División on Friday evening.
For the first time this term, Uzoho was preferred in goal ahead of the experienced José Juan, who had started Elche’s first nine games in the lower division league this term.
During the encounter, Uzoho made at least three saves to keep Malaga out at Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero and the best was when he stopped a point-blank shot in the 61st minute.
Uzoho, who celebrates his 20th birthday next Sunday, made his official debut for Elche in a 2-1 win against Granada in Copa del Rey on September 13, but had been an unused substitute in four games before Friday’s clash against Malaga.
