Ezenwa Turns Attention On Battle With South Africa

Enyimba International of Aba goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa has stated that he and other players in the Super Eagles have now turned their attention on the next match of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, away to South Africa next month.

Though Ezenwa did not get to play in either the home or away fixtures against Libya, he told sports247.ng that he was happy to be part of the team that made history by winning both matches in Uyo and Sfax.

The former FC Ifeanyiubah of Nnewi shot-stopper, however, stressed that those matches are now behind the Eagles and their focus has now shifted automatically to the November 17 battle away to Bafana Bafana at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg.

The home-based Eagles captain said the match in Jo’Burg will be twice as important as any other, because it would be the chance for the Eagles to avenge a 2-0 loss at home in the first leg and then seal their qualification to AFCON 2019 with a match to spare.

Ezenwa added: “We owe it to ourselves to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, and beating South Africa at their backyard will confirm that for us and Nigeria.

“We thank God for how we were able to beat Libya home and away. South Africa already beat us at our home, so we have to beat them in return, and I am very confident of our chances of beating them.”
