CAF has suspended Gehad Grisha, the Egyptian referee who officiated the first leg of the Champions League final between Wydad Casablanca and Esperance Tunis which ended in a 1-1 draw in Rabat, Morocco on Friday, May 24.
Gehad Grisha was handed a six-month ban due to poor performance in response to a complaint filed by Moroccan Football Federation.
Moroccan officials claim Grisha made several wrongful calls that robbed Wydad of a win at home.
A goal scored by Wydad was disallowed while a “clear” penalty was ignored even after a VAR verification, according to the complaint.
Wydad were reduced to 10 men by the 49th minute when captain Ibrahim Nakash was shown two yellow cards within five minutes and expelled from the game.
The second leg is scheduled for Friday, May 31 in Tunis.
