D’tigers’ Ike Nwamu has stated that the Nigeria men national basketball team is set to emulate the world cup story of their women counterpart who got to the quarter final stage of the women’s world cup against all odds ahead of Nigeria’s world cup participation at the fast approaching FIBA world cup in China this year.
In a chat with Sports247, Nwamu said the D’Tigers have taken up the challenge by virtue of the team’s achievement and are determined to also bring smiles to Nigerians and are already motivated by the achievement of the women team.
“We definitely look to them as motivation because a lot of people counted them out. And then they were able to have a good showing like they did.
So we’re looking to cheer up ourselves with the same kind of energy for ourselves too at the world cup.
So we’re looking to have just the same level of success as they did or even surpass them as well. It’s like a challenge on us already.”
Nigeria are drawn in the same group at the FIBA world cup alongside Argentina, Russia and South Korea.
