President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Engineer Ibrahim Gusau has revealed that the body will soon commence a programme that will touch all states of the federation.
Gusau said in an interview with sports247.ng that the AFN intend to go down to the state levels to spot new talents and reach out to various sectors of the community.
He then urged athletics associations in the various states to ensure they have constant competitions, and pleaded for support from their various governments.
While speaking on the state of athletics in Nigeria, Gusau said the AFN cannot carry out their programmes successfully on their own, but also stressed that the need backing from government, corporate bodies, groups and individuals.
Gusau disclosed: “We are reaching out to the state level, so that the country can feel our impact better.
“We need full support from all state governments and private sector sponsorship to implement this.
“We can only create platforms for competitions, but will also need full support for implementation and nurturing of emerging talents.”
