Turkey-based duo of Trabzonspor midfielder, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi and Bursaspor defender, Shehu Abdullahi have both been ruled out of the Super Eagles’ second leg Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya on Tuesday, sports247.ng can confirm.
This comes after Onazi copped a knock in training last week in Uyo, while Abdullahi bowed out early from the first leg at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, after going down under a crunchy tackle in the 19th minute of play.
The Eagles thrashed The Mediterranean Knights 4-0 on Saturday thanks to an Odion Ighalo hat-trick and a well struck late goal from distance by Samuel Kalu, but Abdullahi, who started at right-back, was not on the field to directly join in the celebrations.
Before then, Onazi suffered a training ground injury on Thursday, but the injury has failed to heal, suc that Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has now confirmed that both players are not available for Tuesday’s reverse fixture in Sfax, Tunisia.
Rohr disclosed: ”Abdullahi Shehu suffered a muscle contraption in the quadriceps on his right leg during the game. It was not a groin injury. He’s going to be out of action for the second game.
”We also lost Ogenyi Onazi who has an inflammation on his Achilles. He won’t be traveling with us to Tunisia. We have 22 players for the second game in Tunisia.”
