Everton of England youngster, Ademola Lookman might still be harboring thoughts of playing for Nigeria at full senior level, as the youngster confessed at the weekend his mind is not fully focused on lining out with the youth team from Queensland, sporst247.ng can report.
While another school of thought reckons Lookman has divided focus from club commitments, as Everton stopped him from joining RB Leipzig of Germany in the summer, the youngster appears to be holding out for a switch in senior national team allegiance.
Such it had been this summer, when officials at Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) disclosed that efforts had reached feverish point to ensure the lad turns allegiance towards playing at senior level for his father’s country.
It is now left to be seen what the future holds for Lookman, after he admitted that England’s under-21 team handler, Aidy Boothroyd was right to question his focus.
Boothroyd criticised Lookman’s performance, but the gaffer feared that speculation over the lad’s future had affected him, after last month’s 2-1 win in Latvia.
Lookman responded with a man-of-the-match performance, scoring once in the 7-0 thumping of Andorra on Thursday as England booked their place at Euro 2019, but the Nigerian-born winger says he is still not at his best.
He said: “When someone tells you, is real with you and tells you the truth, it allows you to think and bring yourself back to reality.
“He spoke to me about it but I’ve just tried to put it behind me and move forward. I’m at Everton and I will do my best and train hard.
“I did (think the comments were fair). I feel more settled now, the transfer window is behind me so I’m getting my head down and working hard.
“You want to play, that’s my objective, and I hope to do that soon. What’s out of my hands is out of my hands.”
