Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have confirmed that the Olympic Eagles are yet to qualify for the 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, as Imama Amapakabo’s team will still have to play the winner between Kenya and Sudan in the final round of the qualifiers in June.
Although many Nigerian fans and a section of the media were already celebrating a ticket to Tokyo 2020 Olympics, following Tuesday’s 4-0 trouncing of Libya in Asaba, the NFF stated that the Olympic Eagles will only be eligible for a place at the 3rd U23 AFCON in Egypt after beating their next opponents in the qualifiers.
Sports247.ng can report that the NFF information department disclosed further that the next U-23 AFCON, which Nigeria won the last edition in 2015, will hold in November, when the top three teams will represent Africa at the men’s football tournament of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
