U19 Cricket Team Coach Dedicates ICC Spot To Buhari

Nigeria’s under-16 cricket team’s coach, Uthe ‘Clive’ Ogbimi says the squad have dedicated their ICC World Cup qualification top President Muhammadu Buhari.

Sports247.ng reports that Ogbimi stated as much on arrival from Windhoek, Namibia, where the Nigerian team made history by pulling off the biggest of all shocks against better rated countries.

Despite the presence of host country, Namibia, alongside Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Sierra Leone, Ogbimi’s side picked a slot for the 2020 ICC U-19 World Cup in South Africa.

Ogbimi admitted it is a miraculous performance for a team that has risen from the third level of cricket in Africa within a period of just three years, to now emerge top of the lot in the global qualifiers.

He declared: “I am really happy with what the players have been able to achieve within such a short time.

“They have grown fast, from the third grade, to division two, and division one, now winning the World Cup ticket.
“Now we are back home, and we want President Muahmmadu Buhari to see this as a gift to him, since it is coming so soon after his re-election.

“We are the first team to win something for him in sports for his second term in office, and I am sure he will show appreciation to us for this.”
