NPFL: Champions-Elect Remo Stars FC Poised to Clinch Title on Sunday as Musa, Rabiu Down Rivers United

Remo Stars FC are on the brink of history, with just one win separating them from their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title.

The Ikenne-based side could be crowned champions on Sunday, following Kano Pillars’ 2-0 victory over Rivers United on Friday in Kano.

Goals from Super Eagles icon Ahmed Musa and club legend Rabiu Ali in the second half ensured Rivers United fell short in a tightly contested Matchday 35 clash at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Despite a spirited first-half display, the visitors couldn’t hold off the pressure from the hosts, ending their hopes of catching up to Remo Stars.

The result keeps Remo Stars seven points clear of Rivers United going into their own Matchday 35 fixture against Niger Tornadoes on Sunday. A win for the Sky Blues would take them ten points clear with only three matches left, an unassailable lead that would seal the title.

The Ikenne outfit has been nearly unstoppable at home this season, dropping only four points at the Remo Stars Stadium. Their dominant form and consistency throughout the campaign have set the stage for a historic crowning in front of their fans.

After finishing as runners-up in the last two NPFL seasons (2022/2023 and 2023/2024), Remo Stars have finally hit their stride.

This season has seen them combine attacking flair with defensive solidity, making a compelling case for their title charge.

As anticipation builds across Ikenne and beyond, it’s only a matter of time before the long-awaited dream becomes reality. Sunday could mark the beginning of a new era in Nigerian football.
