Sports247 reports that Orbih was delighted to receive on Eniola’s behalf her prize during the ceremony, where the SL3 bronze medalist at last year’s Paralympics in Paris, France was named as winner of the 2024 African Women In Badminton award.
He noted that Eniola was not only the first Nigerian special athlete to win a badminton medal at the Olympics and Paralympics, but she also enacted an unprecedented feat for all of Africa, which he described as a thing of great joy and pride.
Orbih added, “What can I say other than stress that Eniola has done Nigeria proud. She just doesn’t seem to get tired of doing us proud. Looking at what happened in badminton last year, on the continent, everyone will agree with me that no other woman did close to what Eniola achieved.
“So, we are happy, and we are grateful to the Badminton Confederation of Africa for recognising this fact and giving this award to someone who truly deserves it.”
Orbih went on to reveal his personal thoughts and emotions, as the one who collected the award on Eniola’s behalf, following which he declared that there will now be continuous and unflinching backing for her from the BFN.
“It is quite elating, and I was really proud when I was called out to receive this award on her behalf. I also use this moment to promise that, as a federation, we will continue to work hard to support her and give her all the necessary encouragement.
“We know there’s still a whole lot that Eniola wants to achieve in this sport, and we’ll be there to give her all the necessary support,” Orbih pledged.
