D’Tigress Set for Intensive Preparations Ahead of 2025 Afrobasket Title Defence – NBBF

With the 2025 Afrobasket Championship set to take place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire from July 26 to August 3, the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) is intensifying its efforts to ensure the national women’s team, D’Tigress, are well-prepared to chase a historic fifth consecutive continental title.

Speaking exclusively to journalists after returning from the tournament draws in Abidjan, NBBF Vice President, Babs Ogunade, unveiled the federation’s detailed plans for the team’s build-up to the competition.

According to Ogunade, a training camp will be held in Abuja to get the team in top shape. He also revealed that a three-nation friendly tournament involving Nigeria and two yet-to-be-named national teams is in the pipeline.

“The NBBF is committed to giving the girls the best possible preparation,” Ogunade said. “We also want to use the opportunity to present the team to their fans and the Nigerian public, through the friendly matches.”

He further stressed the importance of early funding and timely planning: “We’re appealing for the prompt release of funds to enable both local and international camping, especially in locations with world-class facilities.”

Ogunade concluded by noting that the best talents within and outside Nigeria are eager to don the national colours and are hungry for success on the continental stage.
