The award, presented at the Badminton Confederation Africa (BCA) Annual General Meeting in China on April 24, marks Bolaji as only the second Nigerian to ever receive this prestigious recognition—joining the ranks of 2019 recipient and national icon Obiageli Solaja.

Bolaji, a dominant force and multi-time African champion, is celebrated not only for her medal-winning performances but also for breaking barriers as the first African to win an Olympic or Paralympic medal in badminton or para-badminton. Her impact, both on and off the court, continues to blaze a trail for future generations.

Receiving the award on her behalf, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, hailed Bolaji’s journey as one of courage and determination. “This award reflects the BCA’s recognition of her remarkable progress. She is only just beginning to make her mark on the global stage,” Orbih said.

He also expressed optimism about the future of the sport in Nigeria, citing the country’s upcoming hosting of two international para-badminton championships in Abia State later this year.

With a legacy of excellence and a future brimming with promise, Eniola Bolaji’s story continues to inspire not just Nigerians, but the entire African continent.
