Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has admitted that players in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) do not find it easy plying their trade on the home front, as he says many factors affect their performances.
Sports247.ng can report that Rohr stated during a press conference in Asaba that he often wonders how Nigeria’s home-based players manage to develop and cope in a championship that often suffers several months of inactivity.
The Franco-German tactician also noted that the standards are low in terms of facilities, organisation and health care, such that it becomes twice as difficult than elsewhere for the players to give their best.
Rohr went on to admit that he often finds it hard to look in the direction of Nigeria’s home-based players because he feels they will not be able to give their best in the national team due to the factors affecting them.
He declared: “It is not easy for the local players when you see the conditions they have to play.
“Playing on old astro-turf, not able to play for up to six months because the league is on break.
“How will they be fit and be able to compete with players from Europe, who have the best for training, playing, organization, health and so on.
“So, it is not easy for the local players, but we have four in the team now. I invited two from the under-20, the captain and the best defender.
“But, each time we invite somebody, a few weeks later he is in Europe. So he is no more a local player.”
