Kwara Football Academy (KFA) has been crowned champions of the inaugural edition of the Seyi Tinubu Cityzens Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over La Planet FC in a thrilling final held at the Rashidi Yekini Main Bowl of George Innih Stadium on Saturday.
The decisive moment came early in the match when Fawas Sakariyau calmly converted from the penalty spot, a goal that ultimately secured the title for the KFA boys.

The grand finale, which drew a large crowd, was a celebration of football artistry, showcasing brilliant performances from both teams. Prior to the final, FC Zeus edged Na Royal 1-0 to clinch the third-place spot and take home bronze medals.
Organized to foster unity among communities, uncover raw talent, and provide a platform for young players to showcase their skills, the tournament featured 16 teams competing across various strategic locations in Kwara State.
At the closing ceremony, tournament convener Aliu Olamilekan Bello praised the teams for their sportsmanship and outstanding efforts, stating, “All the teams gave us their best, and we are very satisfied with their performances. The tournament truly lived up to expectations.”
Lawal Moyosore Tijani, CEO of Steady Global Investment, also lauded the tournament’s success and thanked the Kwara State Government and stakeholders for their vital support. “We couldn’t have done this without them,” he said.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Mogaji; Honourable Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam; Chairman of Kwara State Football Association, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya; and Honourable Ishola Kayode, Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Innovations, among others.
KFA were rewarded with a giant trophy and a cash prize of One Million Naira as champions of the prestigious tournament.
