Nigeria’s former men’s senior national team captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has joined in making comments as part of what he referred to as an exciting countdown towards the Super Eagles’ latest clash with Black Stars of Ghana.
Sports247 gathered that the mouth-watering encounter, which is billed to hold on April 28th at English Premier League club, Brentford’s GTech Stadium in West London, will be one of a quadruple of games marking the return of a four-nation invitational competition tagged Unity Cup.

The first game will be Jamaica versus Trinidad and Tobago on April 27th, with the winner going on to face either Nigeria or Ghana in the final; ahead of which both Anglophone West African countries relive memories of several years in football rivalry.
The last encounter between their sides was a 2-1 victory for Nigeria in a similar friendly on March 22, 2024; which was two years after the Black Stars stopped the Super Eagles from going to the 2023 FIFA world Cup in Qatar with a stunning 1-1 draw at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on March 29, 2022.
With those games and more others before them now in review, Okocha acknowledged that many issues will make the upcoming clash in London one to look forward to, enjoy while it lasts and even relish for long after the final whistle.
“It’s always a good match to watch and a healthy rivalry,” Okocha enthused. “So, I am expecting it to be a good game. I also expect good banter before and after the game.”
The mercurial former midfielder, who played for top clubs like Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany, Fernebahce of Turkey, PSG of France and Bolton Wanderers of England during his active days, further noted how pecuniary issues are brought into matches concerning Nigeria versus Ghana, because of the long standing dilemma over which of the two rival countries produces the best jollof rice as a delicacy for social engagements.
“If we have to inlvove jollof rice into it, that would be interesting too, and it will make the banter more exciting. In fact, there are a lot of things to talk about. So, for me, it’s always been a healthy rivalry,” Jay Jay submitted
