The National Sports Commission (NSC) has commended Ogun State for its high level of preparedness ahead of the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024, scheduled to hold from May 16 to 30, 2025.
Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director General of the NSC and Chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC), expressed his satisfaction during a comprehensive inspection of the facilities. He was joined by members of both the Local and Main Organising Committees.
“This inspection is crucial not just for aesthetics, but for technical reasons,” Olopade said. “We’ve resolved with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) to host all athletics events, including the throws, at the MKO Abiola Stadium due to the quality of the Astroturf. That’s a major milestone for us.”
He also praised Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for the impressive progress on infrastructure, particularly in enhancing stadium security. “Every public address system has an integrated camera, and the stadium is fully covered with world-class surveillance for real-time monitoring,” he added.
The inspection tour also included the Abeokuta Golf Course, where Olopade pledged the NSC’s support in providing essential equipment that will serve as long-term legacies for the community. “We hope these developments positively impact the indigent children living around this area,” he stated.
With most venues nearing completion, the 2024 Gateway Games are shaping up to be among the best-organized editions in the festival’s history. The inspection concluded with a joint technical meeting involving federation secretaries, state sports directors, and committee members.
The day also featured the official unveiling of the festival’s logo, theme song, and mascot, with the Ogun State Government reaffirming its commitment to delivering a premium, world-class sporting event.
