Over a thrilling three-day competition, Team Nigeria showcased elite talent and discipline, securing a total of 14 medals—five gold, seven silver, and two bronze—competing against powerhouses such as Germany, Iran, and host nation Jordan. Nigeria was one of only three African countries in attendance, alongside Egypt and South Africa, and emerged as a continental and global force.

NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, hailed the achievement as a powerful validation of the Commission’s strategy to drive excellence through vision, structure, and support. “This victory is a testament to what is possible when vision meets preparation and belief,” he said. “Our para-athletes continue to inspire the nation. Their performance in Jordan is clear proof that Nigerian sports can succeed anywhere in the world with the right support.”

NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, also praised the team’s resilience, commending not just the athletes but also the technical crew and leadership of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN). “This is a proud moment for Nigeria,” he said. “Special recognition must go to PCN President Sunday Odebode, whose commitment to excellence and inclusion has driven consistent results.”

Team Nigeria’s Gold Medal Highlights:

Olufemi Alabi kicked off Nigeria’s gold rush by winning the Men’s Class 10 singles, defeating Iraq’s Shafeeq Hikmat.

Faith Obazuaye claimed gold in the Women’s Class 9-10 category with a dominant performance.

Bolawa Akingbemisilu triumphed in the Men’s Class 4-5, overcoming compatriot Kehinde Lawal in an all-Nigerian final.

The tournament ended on a high note as Alabi and Obazuaye combined to win the Mixed Doubles Classes 17-18, sealing Nigeria’s fifth gold.

The NSC credited this success to its renewed focus on athlete development, administrative efficiency, and international competitiveness. Under the leadership of Dikko and Olopade, the Commission has prioritized investment in para sports, delivering not just medals but national pride and global respect.
