Nigerian Sprinters Shine at Strawberry Relays: Asemota and Onyah Deliver Impressive Performances

It was a bright outing for Nigeria’s track and field stars at the 2025 Strawberry Relays, as Marvelous Asemota and Onyah Favour delivered outstanding performances in the women’s sprint events.

Marvelous Asemota stormed to victory in Heat 2 of the women’s 100m, clocking a season’s best of 11.71s (+1.1 m/s). The promising sprinter showcased her growing form and consistency, firmly establishing herself as one to watch this season. Asemota followed that up with a solid performance in the women’s 200m, where she faced a stiff headwind of -2.2 m/s but still managed a respectable time of 23.96s.

Also grabbing the spotlight was rising star Onyah Favour, who broke the 12-second barrier for the first time in her career. Racing in Heat 3 of the women’s 100m, Onyah clocked a lifetime best of 11.80s (+1.3 m/s) to clinch the win, marking a major milestone in her sprinting journey.
