The government of Edo State has hinted that they will undertake a test run of facilities for next year’s National Sports Festival in either October or November, as efforts intensify towards a successful competition.
Sports247.ng can report that this hint was provided by no less a person than the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, who also assured that efforts to upgrade facilities have been intensified.
Obaseki added during a visit by sports minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung at Government House, Benin City that facilities in the state are being remodeled to ensure smooth hosting of the events’ gathering.
He further pledged that Edo State government is prepared to justify the confidence reposed in them, when they were granted hosting right for the 2020 Festival.
While also revealing that he has secured assurances from contractors that some of the facilities will be test-run by October or November, the governor said his administration wants to set a standard for the games.
Obaseki assured: ”We will do everything to justify the confidence reposed in us as a state.
“We have begun to revamp all sporting facilities in the state. Security and other logistics are being put in place ahead of the games.
”Edo is the home of culture and we have so much to show and display to the world. This is the home of sports in the country.
“Some of our leaders contributed to establishing the National Sports Festival to promote nation-building.
“We understand our role in the history of sports in Nigeria (and we want) to ensure that participants have a memorable stay.”
