The severity of the of the injury is yet to be determined while the coach confirmed why he left the Nigerian International out of the match day squad.
“I don’t know when he ‘ll be back. It’s going to be day to day check. He felt something in his hamstring,” Nuno said in a post-match interview with Sky Sports UK.
The injury is a setback for the 27-year-old, who had been featuring more regularly in the squad following Chris Wood’s injury during the international break.
Awoniyi had hoped to capitalize on the opportunity to impress Nuno and secure a more consistent starting role.
Awoniyi’s absence adds to Nottingham Forest’s growing injury list, joining Chris Wood and Ola Aina in the treatment room.
The team faces challenges in dealing with key injuries while trying to finish among the top four in the English Premier League.
In the meantime, Nuno will have to explore alternative options in attack until Awoniyi recovers, coping with the absence of reliable starter Chris Wood.
