Thrills and Triumphs on Day 3 of Niger Delta Sports Festival

Day 3 of the ongoing Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) delivered a full dose of adrenaline and excellence, with gripping action across a variety of sports disciplines.

From the electric indoor atmosphere at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium to fierce battles on the football field, combat arenas, and aquatic courses, the day offered something for every sports lover.

Delta State proved unstoppable in the pool, clinching gold in the 50m Butterfly Finals and dominating the men’s team swimming event. Their prowess was also evident in Chess, where Uraiah Patrick secured gold in the Men’s Rapid Event.

Imo State wrestlers showcased traditional strength, winning six out of eight semifinal bouts across both men’s and women’s categories to book spots in the finals. Edo’s Raheem Ridwan also shined with a convincing 5-0 victory in the under 63kg category over Ondo State’s Ojo Victor.

Chess continued to thrill, with Bayelsa State taking full control of the Women’s Rapid Event. Deborah Ebimobo emerged victorious, beating fellow Bayelsan Pelomoh Jessica to gold, while Ebiakpo Sunshine (Bayelsa) and Osayande Kingsley (Edo) settled for joint third.

On the tennis courts at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre, Team Akwa Ibom edged past Team Edo in women’s doubles, while Edo’s Lorelay Holzendorff survived a grueling quarterfinal against Olaniyan Adesewa in singles, winning two tiebreak sets. She is set to clash with Akwa Ibom’s Etoro Bassey in the semifinals.

Looking ahead, Day 5 promises even more fireworks, with finals in para-athletics, swimming, traditional wrestling, and weightlifting. The day kicked off with a demonstration Golf Kitty at the prestigious Ibom Icon Hotel Golf Resort, setting the tone for another unforgettable day of sports excellence in the Niger Delta.
