He emphasized the need for collaboration between the NSC and FRSC to further enhance the country’s sporting landscape.
Mallam Dikko made this statement while hosting a delegation from the FRSC Sports Department, led by its Director of Sports, Corps Commander Daniel Asanya.
Recognizing FRSC’s impressive track record in sports, Dikko stressed that the organization should play a key role in the nation’s new sports development agenda.
“Based on the mandate handed to us by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, we are shifting our focus from a competition-driven approach to a development-driven one,” Dikko said.
“We are now prioritizing the growth of domestic tournaments to discover fresh talents. With all the trophies FRSC has won, it’s clear that they are a major player in Nigerian sports, and we need to work together.”
He also highlighted the potential for FRSC’s core expertise to aid in sports administration, particularly in areas like traffic control during major sporting events at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
The NSC Chairman reiterated his commitment to hosting more international tournaments, pointing out that the African Women Volleyball Club Championship would soon take place at the stadium, with many more events planned.
Earlier, Corps Commander Asanya detailed FRSC’s sporting achievements, including the dominance of Safety Babes in the Nigerian Handball League for five consecutive years and the accomplishments of Anuolwapo Juwon Opeyori, Africa’s top-ranked badminton player and an FRSC staff member.
He also delivered the goodwill message of the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s sporting excellence.
