SGFC Athletics GM Hails Jagaban Cup As Premier Platform For Grassroots Football Development

The General Manager of SGFC Athletics, Olatoye Olawole, has commended the organizers of the Jagaban Cup for their exceptional organization of the tournament.

Speaking after his team’s dramatic comeback victory against Dino SC, secured by Ayodeji Abayomi’s late winner on day two, Olatoye praised the competition’s structure and its role in showcasing grassroots football talent.

“Fantastic tournament. With eight teams participating, I can confidently say this features the best four teams from Lagos State and the best four from Ogun State. It is a brilliant platform for privately-owned clubs to showcase their players. In football, after preparing your product, you need a market to display it, and this tournament provides just that,” he stated.

Olatoye also lauded the efforts of the tournament’s chief organizer, Alhaji Liameed Gafar, for his consistency and dedication to grassroots football. “Hajji Gafar has done an amazing job. The organization is top-notch, and we hope this competition remains sustainable. Kudos to the entire organizing team—this is a well-executed event.”

On his team’s participation, Olatoye expressed no surprise at their invitation, given their rising reputation in Nigerian football.

“We expected it. SGFC has been in the spotlight recently. Two years ago, we qualified for the NNL playoffs, representing the Kwara zone, and we have continued making progress, even facilitating player transfers. Our presence at the Jagaban Cup is well deserved, and I believe we’ve justified our inclusion with our performances,” he concluded.
