Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministry (MFM) FC of Lagos defender, Joshua Akpudje has received a strong tip for a starting role with the Olympic Eagles in Wednesday’s Africa U-23 Cup of Nations first leg qualifier against Libya.
With the under-23 team’s coach, Imama Amapakabo already promising that at least five home-based players will start the game in Bergendan, sports247.ng can report that Akpudje is one of the privileged few.
He will, therefore, line out in front of Flying Eagles goalkeeper, Olawale Oremade, who is billed to start between the posts, while the full-backs will be John Lazarus and Ebube Duru from Lobi Stars of Makurdi.
The 20-year-old Akpudje, who is among the tallest central defenders in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), will pair Adebayo Ojo to complete an all-home-based defence line on Wednesday.
The midfield will have returnee captain, Azubuike Okehukwu, his new assistant, Kelechi Nwakali and Perugia of Italy kid, Kingsley Michael.
Samuel Chukwueze will play on the left side of attack, Taiwo Awoniyi as the arrow head and Dennis Bonaventure down the right flank, all of which Akpudje says is indicative of a good result for the team.
Akpudje, who is a product of a youth development project floated by three former Super Eagles players – Stephen Ayodele Makinwa, Ifeanyi Emeghara and Ebenezer Oluwafemi Ajilore – said is happy to be part of the under-23 national team and vowed to give his best on Wednesday.
He added: “I believe we will come out in flying colours against Libya. I will keep on putting in my best to develop.
“The national team is an avenue for me as a young player to showcase my talent to the world.
“I believe by the special grace of God with hard work everything will work out well for the team.”
