Akwa United assistant coach, Ifeanyi Nwachukwu, has outlined the team’s strategy to avoid relegation at the end of the 2024/2025 NPFL season, Sports247 reports.

Speaking to the press after their NPFL Matchday 29 victory over Shooting Stars at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo over the weekend, Nwachukwu emphasized the importance of securing points away from home while ensuring they win all their remaining home games.
The Uyo-based club secured a crucial 2-0 win against Shooting Stars of Ibadan, a significant boost in their relegation battle, thanks to goals from Endurance Ebediri and Uche Sabastine.
Following the match, Nwachukwu stressed what the team must do to maintain their momentum and escape relegation:
> “We must secure points both at home and away to ensure we avoid relegation. Winning just one match is not enough.”
> “If we fail to get results in away matches, then we remain in danger,” he added.
> “As you can see, there are smiles on everyone’s faces. The boys are putting in the effort,” he stated.
> “With each match, we see improvements. If we continue like this, we have hope of escaping relegation.”
Nwachukwu also expressed confidence in the ability and experience of head coach Kennedy Boboye to lead the team out of the danger zone.
> “The coach has done it before. He once managed an 18-game unbeaten run, and I believe he can do it again,” he said.
He remains optimistic that, with Boboye’s expertise and the team’s resilience, they can navigate this challenging period successfully.
Currently, Akwa United sit in the relegation zone with 31 points from 28 matches, with nine games left to play.
They have won eight games, lost 14, and are positioned 18th on the league table.
