In his first game in charge, Coach Bolus Tope attributed Lobi Stars’ 1-0 loss to Bayelsa United on Sunday, in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 29 fixture at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, Sports247 reports.
Bayelsa United secured a hard-fought victory thanks to Wisdom Magbisa’s stunning 56th-minute goal, as coach Bolus failed in his mission to avoid defeat in his first game as he is saddled to change the fortune of the club.

Lobi Stars started strongly, with Onyekachi Okafor’s impressive strike in the 18th minute narrowly missing the target, showcasing their determination. Their goalkeeper, Itodo Akor, made several crucial saves throughout the match, highlighting his exceptional skills.
The first half ended goalless, but both teams created scoring opportunities in the second half with no goal to show.
However, it was Magbisa’s goal in the 56th minute that made the difference, giving Bayelsa United the lead.
In an effort to salvage a point, Coach Bolus made tactical substitutions, bringing on Ossy Martins, Douglas Achiv, and Nazir Mohammad. Mohammad nearly equalized with a powerful strike, but Bayelsa United’s goalkeeper, Clinton Ezekiel, produced a spectacular save.
Lobi Stars pressed hard for a late equalizer, but Bayelsa United’s defense held firm, demonstrating resilience and discipline.
Speaking after the match, Coach Bolus acknowledged the team’s misfortune as his side failed to convert the chances that fell in their path unlike their more clinical opponent.
“We were not lucky. We could have made the difference, but our opponents got that one chance and took it. It’s a work in progress, and we keep fighting.”
Lobi Stars have endured a turbulent season, with three different coaches failing to turn around their fortunes.
Coach Bolus, now at the helm, faces the daunting task of steering the team away from relegation.
Currently, Lobi Stars sit at the bottom of the table with just 23 points after 29 matches—nine points adrift in the relegation battle.
