NSC Reaffirms Commitment to Para Sports as Eniola Bolaji Strikes Gold In Spain

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reiterated its unwavering support for Nigerian para-athletes following Eniola Bolaji’s remarkable gold medal win at the 2025 Spanish Para Badminton International II in Vitoria.

Bolaji continued her flawless run on the international stage, securing her 11th consecutive victory by defeating Ukraine’s Oksana Kozyna 2-0 (21-15, 21-15) in the women’s singles SL3 final. Her path to gold saw her overpower top contenders from Brazil, France, Australia, and India.

NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko described Bolaji’s victory as a shining example of Nigeria’s rising dominance in para sports.

“Eniola Bolaji’s triumph is a proud moment for Nigerian sports. Her dedication, resilience, and exceptional talent continue to inspire the next generation of athletes. The NSC remains fully committed to supporting para-athletes and providing them with the resources they need to excel globally.”

Echoing this sentiment, NSC Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade commended the Badminton Federation of Nigeria for its role in developing world-class athletes, assuring them of continued backing from the Commission.

“The consistent success of our para badminton players, led by Eniola Bolaji, is proof that strategic investment in sports development yields results. We stand firmly behind the Federation and will continue working to create more opportunities for Nigerian athletes to shine on the global stage.”

In the semifinals, Bolaji delivered yet another dominant performance, sweeping aside India’s Neeraj 2-0 (21-12, 21-6) to book her place in the final.

Francis Orbih, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, celebrated Bolaji’s incredible achievement, highlighting that this gold marks her second title in just two months. He also acknowledged the NSC’s critical role in supporting the federation’s growth.

The NSC leadership reaffirmed its dedication to developing Nigeria’s sporting talents, pledging to work closely with the Badminton Federation to elevate the country’s presence in global para sports competitions.
