Former African women’s badminton champion, Ajoke Dorcas has declared that she and other players in the Nigerian national team will do better in their next continental outing.
Sports247 reports that Dorcas was downcast after failing to go beyond the quarter-finals at the recent African Basketball Championship in Cameroon, but the talented lass affirmed that the contingent will bounce back and do better in future.

While consoling herself in how the Nigerian squad still returned home with a gold and two bronze medals, despite many setbacks they faced during the competition in Cameroon, the soft-spoken Dorcas pointed out that it would have been better had the team not been hit with several misfortunes.
Dorcas stated emotionally: “The experience was not too good. This was my first time witnessing something like this; I mean losing at the quarter-final. One of us also sustained an injury, and we lost to a team we had beaten before. We were not able to finish the team event; as we were walked over because of the injury sustained by one of us.”
She then turned her focus on lessons learnt from the trip to Cameroon, which she believes would guide all their exertions in the future, and they will correct all errors noticed this year in order to do better next time out.
“It was a very bad experience, but we thank God that we still got a gold medal and two bronze. The personal experience was not too pleasant, but it’s a good thing to learn from, and it’s part of sports. Sometimes you lose, just for you to value your wins and for you to prepare well next time, then come back strong.
“The experience was not good, but we learnt a lot. We gained a lot of experience that will help us derive one or two things from this event. We are going to make use of them and, next time, we are coming back strong. We are not giving up,” Ajoke Dorcas emphasised.
