As the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership enters its mid-season break, clubs across the league are gearing up for the second stanza, set to resume on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
The first half of the season ended in thrilling fashion on February 26, with a record-breaking 27 goals scored on Matchday 7, including three hat-tricks.
Speaking on the significance of this break, NWFL Chief Operating Officer (COO) Modupe Shabi highlighted the importance of the ongoing mid-season transfer window in shaping the remainder of the season.
“This transfer window allows clubs to reinforce their teams and address key areas before the second stanza begins. We expect clubs to make strategic moves that will enhance the competition in the league,” Shabi stated.
With the transfer window open until March 11, clubs have a crucial opportunity to strengthen their squads before the league resumes. Teams will be looking to build on their performances from the first half of the season, where the battle for dominance remains fierce.
Current Standings and the Race for Super 6
In Group A, Remo Stars Ladies lead the table with 19 points, closely followed by defending champions Edo Queens with 17 points. Abia Angels and Nasarawa Amazons remain in the hunt, ensuring a competitive fight for the top spots.
Over in Group B, Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens are tied at the top with 17 points each, while Delta Queens, Naija Ratels, and FC Robo Queens are within striking distance.
As the league progresses, the top-performing teams will qualify for the NWFL Premiership Super 6 Championship, where they will battle for the coveted league title.

With clubs actively making moves in the transfer market, the second stanza of the season promises to be even more competitive. As COO, Shabi remains confident that the league will continue to deliver top-quality football while maintaining its standards of excellence.
“We have witnessed an exciting first half of the season, and we believe the second half will be even better. The clubs, players, and fans have all contributed to the growing success of the league, and we are looking forward to an action-packed resumption on March 19,” she concluded.
