Young Lagos footballer Philip Divine Samuel Enadeghe is set to represent the state at the National Sports Festival in Ogun State this May.
Having previously showcased his talent at the National Youth U-15 Games, he is determined to make a mark on an even bigger stage. In this exclusive interview with Sports247, he shares his journey, challenges, and aspirations.
Early Passion for Football
“I started my football journey when I was very little. I have always had a passion for playing football,” Philip recalls. His love for the game has driven him to this moment, where he now has the chance to prove himself among the best young talents in the country.
Representing Lagos: A Dream Come True
Getting the chance to represent Lagos in the National Youth Games was a defining moment. “When I got the information that I’d be representing Lagos, I felt so happy. It was my first time representing my state, and it was an honor,” he says. But it wasn’t without challenges. “The biggest pressure wasn’t from my coach but from within—I had to prove that I was worthy of this opportunity.”
Lessons from the U-15 Games
Philip Divine sees the experience he gained at the National Youth Games as his biggest achievement. “It was my first time playing in such a competition. It helped me improve my game and human management skills. The training, tough matches, and prep talks from past festival games prepared us for this moment.”
The Road to Ogun 2024
Finding out that he had qualified for the National Sports Festival was another emotional moment. “I felt so happy because it was an honor, and I return all the glory to God.”
Philip Divine knows the competition will be tough, but he is ready for the challenge. “It means a lot to me. I know it will be difficult, but I’m preparing hard, just like other players. We understand that winning takes a lot of hard work.”
The Grind Behind the Glory
Training at this level is no easy feat. “The most difficult part is giving your best at all times because wearing your state’s jersey comes with responsibility. But the support from people around me—through advice and financial backing—has kept me going, and I’m grateful to them.”
Inspiration and Support System
Philip credits his success to key figures who have helped shape his journey. “Uncle Femi Edokpai, the owner of Femrich Football Academy Limited, has financially and morally supported me till date. He took me to Liqui Moly FA, the Champions of Lagos NLO 2 Centre, for further development. My family has also played a huge role in my progress. Credit should also be given to Coach Uche, who has toughened me and given me the confidence to play against players much older than me.”
Goals for the Festival
His focus remains clear. “My goal is to go out there, help my teammates, listen to my coaches, and, at the end of the day, be crowned champions. Watch out for us!”
Advice to Young Athletes
To aspiring footballers, Philip shares a message of perseverance: “Keep pushing, keep striving, and your efforts won’t go unnoticed. If it’s meant to be, it will be.”
With his mindset, hard work, and determination, Philip Divine Samuel Enadeghe is a young star to watch at the National Sports Festival in Ogun State. Will he help Lagos bring home the trophy? Time will tell, but one thing is certain—he’s ready to give it his all.
