Former Super Eagles striker Benedict Akwuegbu is upbeat about Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup, starting with the crucial March qualifiers.
Speaking in a recent interview, Akwuegbu praised the current form of Nigerian players at their clubs, emphasizing that they are well-equipped to deliver on the international stage when it matters most.
“We have all the players to win all the games and qualify for the World Cup,” he said. “But it’s left for the coach to play the system. We attack football so that we can win the games. We don’t have to leave any stone unturned. We have to go out there and win all the teams.

And I believe we can do it. We have players that can do it for us. The coach is new. So he has to stick to the players that have already proved themselves. There is no experiment. We have the players to put their base level on the pitch, and that’s it.”
Akwuegbu stressed that consistent selection is vital, warning against excessive changes that could unsettle the squad. He believes that by relying on a stable core of proven players, the team will build the confidence needed to excel in the qualifiers. His call for continuity comes amid widespread discussion about the need for balance between innovation and consistency in team management.
As Nigeria prepares to face tough opponents, Akwuegbu’s remarks serve as a reminder for fans and officials alike to trust the process and support Coach Eric Chelle’s strategy. With a strong foundation in place, he is confident that the Super Eagles can secure their spot in the World Cup and build on their international pedigree.
