With the month of March now ticking away by the second, many emotional Nigerians are already looking up to celebrating Mothers’ Day on the 30th, but the biggest of them all could jolly well be Atletico Madrid Feminino of Spain attacker, Rasheedat Ajibade, who has fond memories of such occasions that she will relish forever.

Sports247 reports that Rasheedat Ajibade’s fondest memory of Mother’s Day dates back to May 8th, 2023, when her Madrid-based club officials shocked ‘The Girl With Blue Hair’ by unexpectedly flying her mum from Nigeria to Spain for an all expenses paid and unannounced special celebratory reunion with her daughter.
Ajibade, who had been barely two years with the team at that time, recounted,
“I was told to come to the office for an interview, but I didn’t know what it was about. I just told myself, ‘OK, since it’s my club, I have to come.’ I could not believe it when my mum walked into the place.
“I didn’t expect to see her. I was so surprised and it was a very good moment for me. It was like, was I dreaming, or was the spirit of my mum appearing to me?”
Dramatically, it turned out to be a visit of multiple joy for the Rasheedat Ajibades, as officials of Los Rojiblancos had also arranged for the happy mum to watch one of their matches live, and her daughter went on to score during the game.
The fleet-footed former FC Robo Queens of Lagos dazzler, who joined Atletico in 2021 and is fondly called ‘Rash’ by her friends, continued her reflections:
“The few days we had together were like 500 days for me. It was also a very emotional game for me. It will stay in my heart forever, because it was the first day my mum would come to the field to watch me play football, and I was also happy that I got a goal for her. It was so special.”
While the proud mum also disclosed how delighted and emotionally upbeat she was during what was her first visit to Spain, ‘Rash,’ who is the current captain of Nigeria’s female national ream, Super Falcons, went on to heap loads of lofty encomiums on the woman that brought her into the world.
“My mum means a lot to me. She is life to me. She is everything I could ever imagine, and she made me get all that I have today. I want to make her proud, and I’m happy that I made her proud on Mother’s Day,” the devout Christian with a Muslim name concluded.
