The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nasarawa State, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, on Sunday, fulfilled his promise of rewarding excellence by gifting a personal cash donation to young sensation Garba Mohammed for his crucial goal against Abia Warriors in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match-day 27 fixture at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
Garba Mohammed’s 40th-minute strike—his first in the elite league—secured a vital point for the Solid Miners after they initially trailed in the 35th minute.
The thrilling contest saw the Nasarawa State Commissioner and the Chief Whip of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa, cheering from the stands.
True to his word, Kwanta Yakubu, who had pledged ₦150,000 for every goal scored by the Solid Miners in the match, presented the reward to Mohammed during the halftime break in the dressing room.
Speaking on the gesture, the Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to recognizing and rewarding excellence, hard work, and dedication in sports. He assured the players that such incentives would continue to boost morale and inspire better performances in the remaining league matches.
Kwanta Yakubu recently assumed office on February 24, 2025, following his appointment by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
His immediate engagement with the team signals a promising era for youth and sports development in Nasarawa State.
