The motion, sponsored by Hon. Waheed Akintayo of Oluyole State Constituency, was deliberated during Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.
The Assembly emphasized that the initiative could serve as a structured platform to develop young athletes while steering them away from negative societal influences.
Hon. Akintayo highlighted the rising concern of substance abuse among young boys in local communities, often due to a lack of structured activities and mentorship.
He noted that grassroots football teams would not only engage youth in meaningful activities but also instill discipline, teamwork, and a strong sense of community.
Furthermore, the initiative could serve as a talent discovery platform, potentially creating pathways for young players to advance into professional football.
Clubs like Shooting Stars FC and other league teams could use these local teams as scouting grounds to identify promising talents.
